Welcome
Welcome to the website of the UK’s premier dinghy racing catamaran, the Formula18.
You will be able to find all the information you need to join the class here
Its an amazing twin trapeze boat, great easy sailing in 5 to 25 knots and as you hone your skills upto 35 knots max
Whats great about this boat is it gives easy access to National and International competition in a strict formula to make all the latest boats very very comparable.
This can be Windward – Leward racing-Round the cans Open events (Europeans or Worlds) or some fantastic long distance events like the Archipelago (Sweden), East Coast Piers Race (ECPR) UK, Worrell 1000 (USA), Costamoricane (France).
There is even now a Long Distance Raid world cup with 3 main events to count!

In the UK Now as of 2025 we are trying to encourage new teams into the F18 class by adopting a “Handicap” rating system for the older boat designs… (See handicap page) The Handicaps will be monitored and adjusted as needed by the UK Handicap committee.

The UK Fleet Handicap system should encourage people to join in with older cheaper boats:
Hobie Tiger can be bought from £500-£2000, more competitive boats like the Nacra Mk2 around £2000-£5500, Competitive second hand readily available Australia Edge boats around £13k-£19k, New Boats are circa £28000. Its easy to add the newer Deck sweeper mainsails to these older boats too. List of boats here
